Sunnies Cafe, Bonifacio Global City

Sunnies Cafe, BGC

Sunnies Cafe is a new brunch-dinner place in Bonifacio Global City opened by the same people who brought us the popular eyewear brand Sunnies Studios. I was apprehensive to try Sunnies Cafe at BGC because I saw lots of bad reviews about it online. But Jeff and I have been wanting to try out a new restaurant and I have to say, it does look appealing so we went ahead anyway.

The interior of the cafe is bright and spacious. They had high chairs, regular chairs and couches. They also have a bar where they serve a selection of cocktails and wine.

They don’t accept reservations so you need to arrive early especially on weekends.

I’m not comfortable dining on high chairs so we were seated on the couch. The staff was very accommodating and pleasant to talk to. They were neither uptight or overly friendly.

My first choice was the Pan-seared Miso Salmon (Php470). It was pretty good. The salmon was neither dry nor too oily. I found the rice a little bit under cooked though (although some people might like it that way). Another thing I noticed too was that the plate was plastic. It aesthetically looks good but I think the dining experience would have been better with.. sturdier(?) utensils.

It was the right amount of sweet and salty and the salmon was seared to perfection.

Jeff got the Butcher’s Steak (Php480 + Php200 for the bone marrow). This dish was so-so for me. The steak was a little chewy for my liking. What saved this dish for me was the bone marrow which they served generously. I think Jeff liked this one.

There were still a few disappointments though. We were forewarned by online reviews that their brunch serving wasn’t very satisfying. We actually looked around at other diners and saw that although the plates for the brunch menu was big, the viand was the size of probably four cotton balls. LOL. We also saw that the milkshakes looked quite plain and unappealing despite it sounding sooooo desirable in the menu descriptions. They also said that the place was “selfie friendly” as in the pretty place had wifi but when we went there last week, there was none.

We chose the Sunnies Rissotto (Php370) in their brunch selection because it looked promising. It had cheese, bacon, egg and gravy. I have to say this was really good. The serving was actually small but given that we had other dishes to eat, it was more than enough. It was creamy and tasty.

Happy Tummies!

SC_JeffHannaWould we go back? Probably. There were other dishes in the menu we would like to try like the Crabfat Rice bowl. Here’s the menu if you’d like to see. I know there are a lot of bad reviews about this place online, but I still think it is worth a try. Go and see for yourself 🙂
