Sugar Factory, BGC
I can’t believe Jeff and I just celebrated our 2nd anniversary! *woot woot!* I can’t remember a time without him anymore. lol. I don’t want to get too cheesy so I’ll leave it at that. For now, let me show you where we decided to eat to celebrate this milestone.
Sugar Factory, originally from the United States, opened its first branch in Asia here in the Philippines. Their Manila store is located in the new Shangri-la at The Fort right beside Kerry’s Sports.
The place was quite spacious. The lights shifted from really bright to kind of dark randomly. They constantly played pop songs too, giving me the impression that it would be a nice hang out place with friends. We had a reservation but it might not be necessary if you’re coming on a weekday.
Upon sitting, you immediately get bombarded by photos of their many celebrity clients including Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Katy Perry, Jamie Foxx, Drake, Rihanna and soooo many more. Their photos literally cover the menu, and their videos visiting Sugar Factory abroad are constantly played on a tv screen across us.
The name may imply that they are a candy shop (and yes, they do have a candy shop), their menu also includes pancakes, comfort food, cocktails and tons of desserts. Many come here for their insane milkshakes.
What first caught our eye in the menu were these colorful goblets filled with cocktails and candies. We went for the Lollipop Passion (Php1600 + 12% VAT). I initially thought it was only Php600 until I saw the receipt. This was definitely NOT worth the price even if the size is good for 2. It tasted like carbonated medicine. I guess we paid for the presentation because it had dry ice in it giving an Instagram-worthy effect. But nope, never again.
The Snicker Giggles (Php890 + 12%) is just one of their many crazy milkshakes to satisfy any sweet tooth. The tall mug itself is covered in chocolate, sprinkles, and of course, Snickers! It’s topped with a waffle, a lollipop and a full bar of Snickers and filled with cookies and cream milk shake.
Their French Onion Soup (Php250 + 12% VAT) was quite small in serving. The soup tasted good. I would have hoped for more cheese though.
Their Paella (Php750 + 12% VAT) was not bad. But it’s a far cry from Calderon’s or Barcino’s. It was tasty but it didn’t have the crispy rice bits that can only be achieved if it were cooked in the same iron plate.
The Black Angus Ribeye (Php2,550 + 12% vat) was quite big. It was juicy but a little too salty for my liking. It came with mashed potatoes and some greens.
The staff was nice enough to give us this greeting on a plate ❤ One thing I can’t complain about here is their service. They were all so nice and accommodating.
